Lesson List

We go over supplies needed such as a standard collar, 6ft lead, crate, food bowl, toys and grooming tools. We discuss how to begin desensitizing your dog to touch, how to start potty training, what to do if your dog cries or whines in addition to common mistakes that owners first start making.

We dive into the biggest mistakes with potty training, the proper times and place to give potty breaks, what to do if an accident does happen. At this stage owners seem to think that socializing their dog with as many different people and pets as possible is beneficial but we explain why it’s not.

We used to sell this program separately but decided to include it as a FREE bonus to all students this program. We teach all our dogs how to exercise on a treadmill as it’s a great way to ensure they get their needed exercise each day, rain or shine. For most dogs (particularly medium to large breeds), going on a hike or jog with you isn’t enough! We take you through the whole process from start to finish. Many students start noticing that simply adding a treadmill routine to their dog’s schedule reduced behavioral issues and bad habits by as much as 50%.

Jimi explains why it’s so important to keep a leash on your dog at all times during this stage of training. We show how to properly show new locations and objects to your dog so they begin to understand what is acceptable or not. We continue training the “Place” and “OK” release command that was introduced in the previous lesson. Bonus video on leash cooperation was recently added to this lesson after feedback from students!

In this lesson, we continue to nail down the “Place” command and show how to test if your dog really knows this command or not. Once this command becomes perfected, the real value of this program begins to shine and we seem to receive the most praise and excitement from students at this stage.

Here we show you how to properly engage and play with your dog and use toys as a drive (i.e. motivation) for your dog to learn new things quickly. We start to give the dog more freedom to explore by moving from a 6ft leash to 30ft check cord. We show how to teach retrieve and introduce your dog to bodies of water (lake, pool, etc). This is where things start getting fun!

In this lesson we start to teach the Sit and Down commands but we don’t teach these movements as verbal commands. Instead, we teach them using hand signals first as it’s much easier for the dog to grasp the movements and encourages focus on you. This is just an example of how we teach things in a very different way compared to other trainers.

Once your dog understands basic silent commands (using hand signals), you can start pairing up verbal words with the command. Eventually you’ll be able to instruct your dog to sit or lay down using hand signals or your voice.

At this stage your dog should be far beyond any other trained dog your friends or family have. They should be able to pee and poop on command, enter and exit their crate when told, stay placed in one spot until released, sit and down by hand signal or verbal command and have great leash cooperation whether using a 6ft or 30ft lead. At this point, we drop the lead altogether and start training your dog off-leash!

Off-leash training is something that everyone seeks but very few trainers can reliable deliver. We spend a lot of time on this and show you how to do it in a safe and positive way.

We take everything your dog has learned so far and use it to teach very concise movements that takes a lot of focus. The “target” command begins to teach your dog how to stand on an elevated object (i.e. a large rock) and pivot around it. This skill translates into teaching your dog how to perfectly heel next to you while walking on or off-leash.

Taking heeling even further, we get into having your dog heel next to you while walking at different speeds and turning in different directions. Yes, we even show you how to get your dog to heel backwards with you!

Training in public places is something you really don’t see other trainers attempting because it’s not easy! This is usually because training process has been rushed and it’s all been done in a vacuum environment with no distractions. If you’ve reached this lesson, then you’ve been training in a new location every time whether it’s a public park or a shopping center before they open. At this point we start training busier public areas and even allow strangers to interact.

We increase the amount of distractions by going out on a busy weekend and start walking through crowds of people. You incur a lot of challenges and show you how to work through them.

Even though we don’t recommend you expose your dog to other untrained dogs at the dog park, we know that people enjoy the social aspect of places like dog parks. Therefore, we show you the ins and outs, what to look for and how to avoid potential issues to keep your dog safe as possible in these situations.

We are constantly communicating with students and if there’s ever an issue that’s trending across multiple students, then we’re sure to take the time to record additional instructional videos and add them to our lessons. Once you’re a student, you are entitled to all these updates for FREE!
